Secretary read minutes from last meeting. Motion made, accepted and carried to accept as read. Treasurer
gave financial report. Motion was made, accepted and carried to accept report. Correspondence received from
June Locker stating that they miss everyone and look forward to attending the June Outing.
Old Business: Pam from the Atlantic City Historical Society only has one weekend a month to speak so Deb
will coordinate with her and report back to the club. Penni Hardin got a hold of someone at the PLP. They told
her to provide as much information as we can on the mining districts in Wyoming and get it to them as soon as
possible. He (from PLP) was surprised how little our legislators both local and federal, know about small mining
issues. Someone mentioned that in order to have access to state archives, we’ll need to go to the national
archives. Much if not all of what we seek can be found there. Glenn Lansberry Jr read a newspaper article
regarding the BLM grab and an ongoing lawsuit that Wyoming is not included in. The author of the article:
Matthew Brown. The article mentioned that not enough time was given for public comment, and some groups
were excluded from participation. A club member also mentioned that the Sage Grouse is still on the hunting
list. It was also mentioned that we’ll need to track down bylaw
documents from original mining
townships/districts. Keith Blair found Casper’s Gold Club documentation of mining districts formed in 1876
which included territorial laws. Deb Palmer read an update from the Mining Journal. The MMAC and PLP have
been gathering funds to hire a lobbyist. In the meantime the PLP rep went to Washington DC to do the work
and is finding some small successes. China leads the world in rare and precious minerals supply market.
Obama used the “Antiquities Act” to circumvent Congress with regard to public land use. A club member
mentioned that we need to be aware, when seeking small mining districts that names may have changed over
time. Someone mentioned this site as a possible help in any research being done:
http://www.westernmininghistory.com/ and to not lump small mining districts together. Much gets lost with
regard to representation when we do. Glenn Lansberry Jr also mentioned that he did speak to State Senator
John Hastert who may come to our August meeting. And representative Stan Blake wants to join the WPA.
Randy Hutchison has extended an invitation to Senator John Barrasso to come visit our annual outing.
New Business: Packets of updated maps have been included with this mailing of the club minutes. Please be
sure to replace your old maps with these current ones. Changes from the old Becky One and from Strawberry
Luck to the Big easy require this change. A correction to one corner post (#4) of Mudpie needs to be changed
from 256 to 456. There are a few minor issues with GPS coordinates so the notation might be off but the sites
are correct otherwise. Keith updated the website, adding links to Wyoming and Colorado Geology information
and a link to the club’s Facebook page. Glen Lansberry Sr. will be hosting the metal detecting treasure hunt
(adult & children’s) during our annual outing on Sunday.
Next Meeting: June 11th 9am at the Grubstake in Atlantic City, WY
Meeting adjourned: 11:35am
Karen Schroeder, Secretary
